The Equity Sherpa Growth Academy

Every sales problem in a consulting firm ends up in its valuation.

Firms come to us for different reasons: a founder-dependent pipeline, senior people who don’t sell, feast-and-famine revenue, margin lost through discounting, existing accounts left to coast. Each has an equity cost, and every one of them is within your control.

Taught by people who have built, led and sold consulting firms.

Why firms invest

Five common sales problems — and what they can cost.

Select the challenge that sounds most like your firm to see an example of its effect on equity value.

The equity cost of key person dependency
Example: £12m revenue · £3m EBITDA · 7x multiple · £21m valuation
Enterprise value£21m
Key person discount, midpoint of the 10–25% range17.5%
Removed from your valuation−£3.7m

Key person discounts of 10 to 25 per cent appear across the case studies in Shannon Pratt’s Business Valuation Discounts and Premiums.

How we build capability

Lasting change needs mindset, skills and working practices.

Our programmes follow Prof. O’Mahoney’s published research: design around real needs, practise realistic situations, coach between sessions and reinforce the change through managers.

Mindset

Reframe selling as diagnosing and solving a client problem, not persuading someone to buy. Senior people learn to treat the commercial part of the role as part of good consulting.

Skills

Build visible expertise, qualify opportunities, lead commercial conversations, write stronger proposals, agree fees without unnecessary discounting, and ask for further work and referrals.

Working practices

Introduce weekly opportunity reviews, structured account plans, regular coaching and clear ownership, so business development continues while the firm is busy delivering.

Who teaches it

Taught by people who have won work themselves.

Founders, CEOs and client partners who have built, led and sold consulting firms.

I’ll admit I was a little sceptical as to how applicable it would be for my business. The content was actually very relevant and I’ve already booked a session to take our leadership team through some of the themes we need to start focusing on.

Common questions

Which route is right for your firm?

Who is the Growth Academy for?

It is designed for consulting firms that want more senior people to contribute to business development. Open courses suit individuals and small groups; in-house programmes suit firms that want a consistent approach across a wider team.

Is this generic sales training?

No. The work is built around how consulting is bought and sold: expertise-led marketing, diagnostic client conversations, proposals, fee discussions, account development and the routines that keep a pipeline moving.

What makes the in-house programme different?

It uses your live opportunities, accounts and client conversations. Coaching and leadership follow-up are built in so that the learning becomes part of the firm’s normal way of working.

Where will course dates and booking details appear?

Each open course will have its own page with the format, dates and booking information. This page explains the overall Academy and helps you choose the right route.
